About Minesweeper Maze
Minesweeper Maze combines the number clues of classic Minesweeper with a walk through a grid. Instead of clicking squares from above, you control a single marker starting in one corner, and you have to walk it tile by tile to the finish square marked F without stepping on a hidden explosive.
The only information you have is the scanner. After every move it tells you how many explosives are hidden in the tiles directly around you, including diagonals. A reading of zero means every neighbouring tile is safe; higher numbers mean you need to think carefully before your next step.
Roughly one in six tiles on each board holds a mine, and every new board is generated randomly. Each successful escape adds to your streak, and your best streak is saved.
How to play Minesweeper Maze
- You start at the top-left of the grid. The finish tile is marked F.
- Move one tile at a time: up, down, left or right.
- After each step, the scanner shows how many mines are in the eight tiles around you.
- Use those numbers to work out which neighbouring tiles are safe.
- Reach F to win and add one to your streak. Step on a mine and the run ends.
- Press Reboot to start a fresh board.

Tips and strategy
- A scanner reading of 0 is gold. Every tile around you is safe, so it is the best place to change direction from.
- Remember the readings from the tiles you have already visited. Two readings next to each other often pin down exactly where a mine is.
- Tiles you have already stepped on are always safe to go back to, so backtracking to get a better reading costs nothing but time.
- You can only move straight, but the scanner counts diagonals too. Mines diagonal to you are not a direct threat, but they are counted in the number.
- Some boards eventually force a guess. When they do, choose the tile that is next to the fewest high readings.
Frequently asked questions
How is this different from normal Minesweeper?
In normal Minesweeper you reveal squares from above. Here you physically walk through the grid, and you only learn about the tiles around your current position.
Is every board solvable without guessing?
Boards are random, so occasionally you will need to take a calculated risk.
What does the streak count?
The number of boards you have escaped in a row. Your best streak is saved in your browser.
